Frequently Asked Questions:retail

“WHY DID MY WATCH SUDDENLY DISAPPEAR FROM MY CART WHEN I WAS CHECKING OUT?”

As stated by Squarespace customer service, “Products are not reserved when a customer reaches the checkout page. A product's stock level will only reduce when a customer completes the final step within the checkout, and payment is [completed]. If you have one of a product left in stock and two customers add it to their carts at the same time, the product will be sold to whoever completes checkout first. This cannot be changed.” Simply put, adding a watch to your cart does not guarantee purchase. While a single item can be added to many carts at once, the customer who fully completes payment process first will be the one to purchase it. We know how frustrating and disappointing this can be, however, hubcityvintage.com does allow customers to create profiles where shipping and payment information can be saved, drastically speeding up the purchasing process and increasing one’s chances of securing their desired Seiko. “WHERE IS YOUR STORE?”

Our shop is only a workspace for now! We do all of our business online by posting batches of 4-12 Seikos at least once a month. What we post for sale will vary depending on what we were able to source, but regardless of what we put up on the site, it all goes fast. If you’re interested in purchasing in the future, make sure you sign up for our mailing list for a preview email, sent approximately 24 hours before our watches go live, so you can see what will be available and precisely when. You can also join our Patreon community for $7 a month, and receive access to “sneak peek” videos of our upcoming watches, before they’ve been serviced, a week or two before they hit the site!

“CAN HCV SOURCE A SPECIFIC WATCH FOR ME?”

When or how many of a specific watch we are able to source is completely up to chance. What we do offer will always be featured in our preview e-mail, sent out approximately 24 hours before a drop.

“WHY IS EVERYTHING SOLD WHEN I GO TO BUY A WATCH?”

Our watches tend to sell quickly, so setting up an account with your shipping and payment info will improve your chances at getting the piece you want. We realize that it might be frustrating or disappointing not to be able to reach out to us and purchase the exact watch you want, when you want, but we have limited resources and time, with a very high demand. Our top priority, besides offering the very best original vintage Seikos on the market, is keeping the purchasing process fair. So for now, the purchasing process is a first come first serve operation.

“CAN HCV SERVICE MY WATCH?”

“I RECEIVED AN E-MAIL ABOUT WATCHES FOR SALE, BUT WHEN I WENT TO YOUR SITE, THERE WEREN’T ANY LISTED. WHERE ARE THE WATCHES?”

If you’ve received an e-mail from us, it’s most likely announcing a watch “drop.” We sell our watches in batches of 4-12, approximately 24 hours after we send the e-mail. Check the subject line and the top of the correspondence for the date and time you can expect the watches to go live for purchase.

“CAN HCV SERVICE MY VINTAGE SEIKO?”

In addition to warranty work, HCV is taking in outside (not purchased through HCV) service and repair jobs right now, on a case to case basis. Due to our current volume, the wait time for outside work is approximately 4 months. If you would like to be added to our waitlist, please fill out a service and repair inquiry HERE.

A typical full standard service includes:

-complete disassembly of movement and case components

-cleaning of movement and case components (including bracelet)

-reassembly of movement

-lubrication

-new gaskets/crystal as needed

-regulation

“WHAT DO YOU CHARGE FOR A WATCH SERVICE?”

Our current floor pricing for a Seiko service can range from $225 to $400 per watch, depending on the model. Your total charge may go up based on the condition of the watch, replacement parts, cost of labor, and shipping. Of course, in order to give you an itemized estimation of work and final pricing, we will need to evaluate your watch in person.

“I DON’T WANT A FULL SERVICE. CAN YOU JUST DO A REPAIR?”

It is possible, however, unless the repair is for something cosmetic (i.e. crystal, bracelet, crown and/or stem, hands, etc.), it is rare we are able to make repairs to a movement without having to service it, due to its structure. We simply cannot reach certain components without completely disassembling the movement. Whether you want a service or not, the labor is the same on our end.

“CAN I SEND MORE THAN ONE WATCH IN FOR SERVICE?”

More often than not, we are able to accommodate service requests for up to three watches at a time.

“DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT FOR SERVICE WORK?”

We do charge a waitlist reservation fee of $60, per watch. This fee is non-refundable and will either be applied to your bill after service, or cover your evaluation charge, should you decline the work. This fee does not apply to warranty work.

“WHAT IS YOUR TURN AROUND TIME FOR SERVICE WORK?”

As it stands, turn around time for actual service and repair work is 2-12 weeks, in addition to our waitlist time.

“HOW SHOULD I SHIP MY WATCH TO YOU?”

For domestic service requests, we ask that you ship your watch(es) USPS, as we use a postal locker.

“DO YOU SERVICE WATCHES FOR INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS?”

HCV is happy to service watches for our clients outside of the US. We recommend using DHL for your international shipping needs.

“HOW DO YOU HANDLE BILLING?”

Once the work is complete, we will send an email with details regarding the work, and a link to pay your invoice. The invoice email will list “Hub City Vintage” as the sender, but is processed through PayPal. Invoices are due upon receipt.
