1968 Seiko 6106-8039 “DX” Automatic Day/Date
1968 Seiko 6106-8039 “DX” Automatic Day/Date
If you’re in the market for an affordable vintage casual with a formal leading edge, this DX “Weekdater” from July of ‘68 has everything you need. The dial is an ivory white linen under a slick lacquer finish with polished and detailed monument markers, and multiple crosshairs. A subtle silver horizon line adds a cross finish contrast, and houses the full day window beneath the Seiko badge, as well as the framed date window at three. A “DX” or Deluxe badge is mounted at six, just above the printed Suwa logo. The hour and minute hands are thin, polished batons with tapered points, and a slender sweep counts the seconds. The case is a classic Seiko monocoque cushion with a thin bezel, and short angular lugs. The crown is recessed at the four o’clock position for a symmetrical finish, and comfort on the wrist. The hacking 6106 is keeping near perfect time post service, and we’ve paired it with an olive suede leather for a clean casual finish. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and a beautiful bargain that’s sure to turn heads on any wrist.
