For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. From the “Pepsi” tachymetric bezel, the the “H-Link” bracelet, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. This example from June of ‘71 is fantastic. The rich, velvety blue dial is perfect. The luminous material on the markers shows almost no signs of aging, and being an earlier variant, it carries the “70m Resist” designation. The rotating inner bezel shows only the slightest fading from UV exposure, and does not detract from the overall condition. The polished hands are without any signs of degradation, and the luminous material is a perfect match to that of the hour markers. The chronograph hands are a bright red that is both complementary, and in perfect contrast to the dial. The outer bezel in a crisp, metallic red and blue shows only very minor wear considering its almost 50 years of age. The case remains unpolished with the original factory finishes still clearly intact, and its attached to the original and correct non-tapered “H-Link” bracelet. It is completely original aside from a replacement crystal. The chronograph functions are responsive, and post service, its keeping near perfect time. It’s a beautiful example and would make a great addition to any roster.
