For vintage Seiko lovers, perhaps no series is as instantly recognizable as the 6139-600X models that have become synonymous with the introduction of this historic movement. From the “Pepsi” tachymetric bezel, the the “H-Link” bracelet, they serve as the embodiment of Seiko’s efforts to deliver, with style, their first automatic chronograph. Today, these models are often referred to as, and fall under the umbrella of the “Pogue” models due to their association to Col. William Pogue and his now historic yellow dialed variant. Available in three colorways (Yellow, Silver, and Blue), it goes without saying that no matter your preference, they are all memorable in their own right and the right example would be a highlight in any collection. This example from July of ‘72 is fantastic. The rich, velvety blue dial beautiful and shows only a few slight flaws.The luminous material on the markers is the original, and shows very little degradation of color. The rotating inner bezel is without fading from UV exposure, and is still a deep black in color. The polished hands still sport a mirror finish, and the chronograph hands are a bright red that is both complementary, and in perfect contrast to the dial. The outer bezel in a crisp, metallic red and blue shows only very minor wear considering its almost 50 years of age. The case remains unpolished with the original factory finishes still clearly intact. We’ve attached it to a light brown distressed leather for a casual finish that nicely complements the color scheme. It is completely original aside from a replacement crystal. The chronograph functions are responsive, and post service, its keeping near perfect time. It’s a beautiful example and would make a great addition to any roster.
