1975 Seiko 6138-0040 Automatic Chronograph "Bullhead"

1975 Seiko 6138-0040 Automatic Chronograph "Bullhead"

$0.00

Seiko's 6138 is the sophomore release to the 6139 and adds a few features lacking on the former. In addition to a rolling 12 hour register for the chronograph, it could now be manually wound at the crown, and the day and date could be quick set independently. The "bullhead" earned it's name when Seiko decided to rotate the movement 90 degrees within the case, and position the crown and chronograph pushers at the top of the case creating a resemblance to a bull's horns. It was available in two color ways, the more commonly seen gradient brown and gold, and this more difficult to acquire black and blue variant. Those that do surface are often fitted with inferior aftermarket dials, hands, and bezel inserts which can make adding an original example to your roster quite a challenge. This stunner from July of 1975 checks all the boxes. It’s completely original aside from a replacement crystal, and is beautifully preserved. The matte black dial is crisp and boasts the original luminous material on the hour markers, which is evenly toned and shows very little aging. The bezel insert is nearly perfect with no visible marring or paint loss, and the case is unpolished with the original finishes still intact. It also comes attached to the original Seiko “fishbone” bracelet for the ultimate finish. Don’t miss out on what’s quickly becoming a rare opportunity!
