1976 Seiko 6138-8039 Automatic Chronograph "John Player Special"
1976 Seiko 6138-8039 Automatic Chronograph "John Player Special"
Like it's Lotus 72 namesake, the 6139-8039 is a finely tuned machine with aerodynamic lines, crisp corners, and a slick black and gold paint job. At 40mm, it's not overpowering, and still has plenty of presence. The matte black dial is deeply set beneath the gold minute track and black tachymetric chapter. The cushion shaped sub registers are a rich satin gold with a distinct "north to south" grain. This example from September of '76 is just stunning. The original factory finishes are still visible on the case, and the everything beneath the mineral crystal is absolutely mint. The original two-tone bracelet has no visible wear through, or stretch between the links. Aside from the replacement crystal, its completely original and performing flawlessly. A true Seiko great, the JPS should be on every collectors list. A sleek racing chronograph with historic racing heritage, and in this case, incredibly well preserved.
