1977 Seiko 7016-7000 Automatic Chronograph “Fly Back”

From Seiko’s legendary Daini division, the 7016 chronographs offered through most of the 1970’s are easily some of the most technically impressive, and aesthetically pleasing Seikos to have emerged from that era. This 7000 variant from February of ‘77 is a perfect example. More features are packed into its 39mm case than were ever available in any of its larger counterparts. The deep cobalt blue dial with a sunburst finish is accented in crisp white and a soft baby blue. The sub register is home to both a 30 minute and twelve hour register, and are totaled by separate white and baby blue hands. Each can be quickly read against their dial markings in corresponding colors. At its edge, the dial is dressed in a nicely contrasted silver minute track, and just beyond that is the nearly vertically set tachymetric chapter that provides tremendous depth between the dial and crystal (original hardlex). The polished bezel flows seamlessly into the case which boasts multiple finishes and sharp, sloping contours. It is unpolished, completely original, and even comes attached to the original “H” link bracelet. The chronograph action is responsive and crisp, and most notably, it features a “fly back” function that allows for it to be reset to zero without having to be stopped first. Scarcely found in this condition, this one is certain to make a great addition to any collection.
