1970 Seiko 6119-8470 5 Automatic Day Date
1970 Seiko 6119-8470 5 Automatic Day Date
If you’re in the market for a vintage affordable with colorful appeal and proven performance, this 6119-8470 from April of 1970 is as good as it gets. The dial is a bright Egyptian blue with long, applied baguette markers sporting a satin finish. The minute track is printed in lengthy silver hashes that give the dial a beautifully symmetrical layout. The hour and minute hands are sandblasted silver batons, and a contrasting polished sweep counts the seconds. A framed day/date window is positioned at three o’clock, and an applied logo and “5” badge sit at top center. The case is familiar Suwa construction, appearing as two opposing crescent lugs held together by a thin beveled bezel. The lugs are finished in a subtle “north to south” brushed grain. The crown sits recessed at four, adding to the overall balance throughout. In search of the perfect pairing, we settled on a distressed rust brown leather that both allows the dial to pop, and adds to the overall character. The 6119 behind the dial is a solid as they come, and post service, it’s keeping near perfect time. Whether you’re for your first, or next great vintage Seiko, this one is bound to become a favorite.
