1970 Seiko 6139-6010 Automatic Chronograph (Proof)
1970 Seiko 6139-6010 Automatic Chronograph (Proof)
At the crossroads of vintage and versatile sits Seiko's 6139-6010. Through truly classic architecture, it is as timeless in design now, as it was making history as one of the worlds first automatic chronographs. This example from August of ‘70 is checks all the boxes. The matte black dial is near mint, and is trimmed in a blocked silver minute track. It sports the "70m Proof" demarcation only printed on the earliest variants. The angular chapter is a glossy black, and its silver tachymetric scale adds just the right amount of sport to an otherwise casual layout. The hands are polished and beveled batons that are easily legible, and the fiery red/orange chronograph hands add a nice pop of color. The sweep hand is the original and correct “Two-Piece” design found on early models. The luminous material is original throughout, and has developed a warm, creamy patina. The case is textbook Seiko with great contours, a wide flat bezel, and integrated lugs. It is unpolished, and the original finishes are still visible. Post service it’s keeping near perfect time and the chronograph functions are smooth and crisp. Attached is the original double hinged “Railroad” link bracelet, making this one is completely original aside from a replacement crystal. A fantastic example of a historic Seiko that’s truly versatile and worthy of a regular spot in any rotation.
