1972 Seiko 6139-6015 Automatic Chronograph

At the crossroads of vintage and versatile sits Seiko's 6139-6015. It features clean classic lines, and a layout as timeless today as it was when it rolled off the line more than 45 years ago. This example from December of ‘72 is a bit outside of our normal playing rules. It’s gold. Gold tone items of this age typically have issues with wear through on the plating that can be unattractive and only continue to worsen. This one however, is as crisp as any we’ve seen. The case shape is the familiar, and instantly recognizable Seiko 6139-601X style with a seamless lug to body flow. The original circular brush finish is crisp, and each corner and surface is sharp. Even if you’re not into yellow watches, there’s no denying that this one is an attention getter. The dial is a sunburst gold with a matte finish contrasted with black markers and hands. A clean black and gold combo we’d strap to our wrist any day. The only bit of wear visible is along the outer edge of the lower pusher, but that does little to detract from the rest of it. We’ve paired it with a black RAF NATO for a clean finish that’s comfortable on the wrist. The 6139 is keeping near perfect time post service, and the chronograph functions are smooth and responsive. If you’re into yellow, this is the one. Trust me.
