1970 Seiko 6139-6020 Automatic Chronograph “Pulsations”

1970 Seiko 6139-6020 Automatic Chronograph “Pulsations”

$1,025.00

Most of the offerings in Seiko's 6139 line up are sports driven and racing styled chronographs, but one “tool” variant stands alone in feature and architecture. The "Pulsations," as it's more commonly known, is an eye-catching doctor's chronograph with attributes all it's own, and an undeniable presence on the wrist. This example from October of ’70 boasts a silver sunburst dial with a slick lacquer finish and polished applied markers with “step down” luminous plots. The polished hour and minute hands are uniform slender batons with luminous windows spanning most of their length. The chronograph hands stand out in a flash of red/orange, and the sweep hand is the original and correct "two-piece" style. Just beyond the dial is the rotating inner bezel in a glossy black and silver, and it’s laid out in a "Base 10" scale that, along with the chronograph sweep, is used to determine a pulse, or resting heart rate. The sleek cushion case sports a low profile bezel and sculpted lugs, and its thinner profile is perfect for sliding just under a crisp cuff.  The 6139A is keeping near perfect time post service, and the the chronograph functions are crisp and responsive. The “pulsations” bezel rotates smoothly in either direction via the crown in the neutral position, and the day and date are quick set by pressing the crown. It’s unpolished and completely original aside from a replacement acrylic crystal, and we’ve paired it with an oiled Sienna suede for a versatile fit and finish that’s ready for every occasion. As great all original examples have become increasingly scarce, this is sure to be a short opportunity to position a “Pulsations” in your own rotation.
